Thank your for your comment. Indeed, the issue is “back seat epidemiologists” naively making fits and extrapolations without a good understanding of the limitations of the data and models being used. My post meant to help highlight how small changes in the assumptions we make about data collection, disease structure, etc can have a severe impact on what the numbers are.
